Dec 23, 2014 · Brian, I had a SIG P226 and a P229 Sport in .357 SIG caliber. I also had the use of an FN five-seven for a few months. The 5.7 fires a .22 caliber projectile at high velocity. The FN SS192 ammunition I chronographed averaged 2025 FPS fired from the pistol. Fast, interesting and highly penetrative, but I would not choose the 5.7 for defense use

When you start at 7.5" and end up at 11.5", the idea of a "pistol" has faded away to a "little bit shorter than normal" rifle. But your points are valid.

I have a 22 hornet but ammo is hard to come by. This 5.7 x 28 is actually kind of about right but I am surprised there is very little attention around making it a rifle round instead of handgun.
